Join us in the beautiful surrounds of Sonairte for the Cruinniú na nÓg Big Day Out. Workshops, performances, trails, music, storytelling, and lots, lots more. A day of free creativity for and by children and young people.
Funded by Creative, a collaboration between Meath and Louth County Councils for this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg, produced by Droichead Arts Centre
Mural Walls
11.30am Ages 4-7. Duration 40 mins.

Working with artists Darrin Finnegan, and Yvonne Dowd Gardiner, participants will create mini murals inspired by the environment in Sonairte Ecology Centre..
Drawing Workshops
12pm Ages 4-7. Duration 40 mins.
This workshop of drawings is inspired by the tiny neighbours that share our homes and gardens, hedgerows and imagination; ladybugs, flies, bees, beetles, paddy pigs, all manner of little critters.
2pm & 3.45pm Ages 8-11. Duration 60 mins.
Working from life and resource material collected respectfully from around Sonairte's garden and ecology centre, we will spend se time looking closely at natural forms and use line, shape, consider negative space, light and shade to create coloured pencil drawings.
Create a Dreamcatcher
Ages 8-11. Duration 60 mins

Create a beautiful dreamcatcher that you can bring home. Using Bead, fibres and your imagination, all materials supplied.
Nature's Rhythm Trail

This innovative and fun workshop will see participants use and gather words and phrases that surrounds nature, followed by an adventure off into the woods to discover what secret sounds we can entice nature to reveal to us. Facilitated by Kieran Gallagher from Kadakaboom Arts.
Clay Workshops

1.30pm & 3.30pm Ages 7-11. Duration 60 mins
Nature prints and dyes, explore slab rolling, coiling, and experiment with all sorts of texture in this clay modelling workshop. Children will be able to take their finished work home.
Cyan Printing
Ages 12-15 years. Duration 60 mins.

Join artist Jenny Slater to experiment with printing in the sun on paper and fabric tote bags using the stunning natural environment at Sonairte for inspiration. Try your hand at the process of cyanotype, with plenty of arty alternatives if it's cloudy!
Low Budget Filmmaking

Following on from the success of last year’s workshop, Droichead Arts Centre are delighted to once again bring back award winning independent filmmaker Frank W. Kelly co director of the Boyne Valley International Film Festival, to facilitate a workshop on how to shoot a low budget short on your phone.

The Order of the Mermaids
Come on a magical, mystical journey with Droichead’s resident storyteller Grainne Rafferty Hear the story of how the mermaids battled against the wily Captain Redman, with all the knowledge the land and sea can provide. How Toe Fungus Tina gets messages from trees through her toes, learn the Bernie Bee Boogie and revel in Mandy the Mermaids tales about how the mysterious and extraordinary Order of the Mermaids came to be.
Fishy n’ Dishy

Short performance followed by 30 min workshop. Ages 7-11.
Fishy juggles shells and Dishy spins plates. Meet the pair and have a go at doing it yourself, while finding out all about the plight of our oceans and what we discover in them – from buoys to jellyfish, to fishing nets and discarded plastic toys.
