The Gallery

This is a large and bright exhibition space with lighting from both the skyline and four adjacent windows. The gallery leads off the box office area and is easily accessible to the public. It also features a sprung dance floorThe gallery’s curatorial programme is devised by our Visual Arts Curator in residence, Dorothy Smith, and includes a number of processes;  special once off commissions, curatorial collaborations and residencies, and our First Solo Award. Work is also conceived and produced inside and outside the confines of the gallery in site specific locations. In addition to exhibitions we present an extensive programme of related talks and workshops with artists each year. We want to transform our gallery into an energetic visual arts space accessed and understood by the community we serve. We support the work of artists in the North East Region, whilst also making connections with other artists on a national and international level.

The Cafe/Bar

The centre has a small café bar, with a theatre licence where we serve pre show and interval refreshments for our audience to enjoy. The café measuring W4.88m x L6.64m is a cosy space, hosting some of Droichead Arts Centre’s contemporary art collection. On an evening of a performance, why not come along early and soak up the atmosphere with a glass of wine or cup of coffee. We also can also host poetry readings, talks or small acoustic music events. The café also facilitates a screen and projector. This space is ideal for small launches, reading and artist gatherings.
